  • These are lacquered wooden rice and soup bowls, finished in a classic two-tone style.

The Byakudan bowls are finished in a rich Nurimawashi technique, where deep black and warm vermilion are applied to create a sophisticated two-tone effect that deepens and grows more vibrant with exposure to air over time. The rice bowl (Meshi-wan) features a wide, shallow opening designed for easy access to rice, while the soup bowl (Shiru-wan) is narrower and deeper to minimise contact with air and keep soup warm longer. Both are crafted from wood and finished in URUSHI lacquer, a living surface that continues to develop character with use.
